6 Things You Need in Order to Successfully Work with A Personal Trainer on Zoom!

Apr 3, 2024

So you’ve heard about Personal Training through Zoom, but do you have what it takes to do it? It’s easier than you think!
Here are 6 things you will need in order to do it successfully!

1. A computer, tablet, iPad, or smart phone
The first thing you will need is a working device so you can connect to the internet, then connect with your trainer through Zoom, Facetime, or Google Meets!

2. Equipment You Have Around the House
Less is more! Don’t worry about purchasing expense gym equipment. For your training sessions and your exercise homework, you will need a chair, light dumbbell weights, a resistance band, and possibly a pillow or ball!

3. Some Space (But Not Much!)
All you will need is enough room to sit on your chair and then to stand beside it and to be able to move from side to side. Some people like to exercise in their basement, and others prefer their living room or office! Keep in mind that you will need to be able to see your personal trainer through the screen as you exercise, so you won’t want to be standing too far away.

We work with our clients for 45-minute sessions once or twice a week. Because you are logging onto Zoom for the sessions, you save time, because you don’t need to travel to a gym, or put on your coat and get out the door! Each week you will get exercise homework to do in order to reach your fitness goals (build strength, flexibility, balance etc) Depending on your goals, you should plan for 2-4 hours of exercise time each week, and eventually aim for 150-200 minutes per week (That’s 30 minutes per day, suggested by the Exercise Guidelines for adults 65+).

5. A Good Internet Connection
In order to have a smooth session where you can hear your trainer and they can hear you, you really need a good internet connection!

6. A Good Attitude
This is required because things happen! Maybe the internet cuts out for a minute, or your trainer needs you to adjust your camera so they can see what your feet are doing! The best way to be successful when training on Zoom is to be able to go into it with a positive attitude and a willingness to try something new!

If you would like to chat about Zoom Personal Training, Michelle is taking on new clients this spring! She has been working with clients on Zoom for many years, and can help you feel comfortable as you exercise with her!
